WHY DO WE CARE?
We want to raise awareness about current issues and get youth more involved in and informed about politics. But why do we care so much?
Before we started, we surveyed over 1,000 students, aged 14-24, from over 25 different countries about politics. The results were stunning.
Only 1/3 of those surveyed considered themselves to be "politically involved."
Nearly 75% agreed with the statement that youth are under involved in politics.
An overwhelming 89% indicated that they would vote when they were of legal age if not already of voting age.
As young people and students ourselves, this issue felt too big to do nothing about. Out of this data, Balance the Ballot was born.
Many of the results from this survey said that the most effective ways to get young people more involved in politics are through social media and education. We thought - why not combine them? We decided on Instagram as our platform since that's something that most young people are active on frequently.
Young people from across the world identified the issues that they see as being the most important. Many of these link to the Sustainable Development Goals, as laid out by the United Nations.
