Russian Elections

  • Vladimir Putin has recently made an impressive, and predictable, win in the Russian election polls. An election with eight candidates, Putin was the obvious winner from the beginning, partly due to the exclusion of the most popular opposition politician Alexei Navalny. The overwhelming final results of the election were largely encouraged by the popular belief that Putin’s stance against the West is propagating ameliorated Russian living standards and a renewed patriotism. Putin’s victory speech only enforced this, as he firmly denied involvement in the UK chemical weapon debacle. As for what this means for the West, it is most likely that Putin will continue to weaken relations.
