On the 20th of March, the Federal Trade Commission opened an investigation into Cambridge Analytica, a voter profiling company, and found data on Facebook users. This data was acquired through a third-party personality quiz app on Facebook in 2014 and was used to make 30 million voter profiles. Cambridge Analytica has ties to some of Trump’s prominent supporters and it used the psychographic data it collected to create targeted online ads for the Brexit ‘Leave” campaign, the 2016 Ted Cruz presidential campaign and the 2016 Trump campaign. Partaking in the US campaigns without a green card is against the law. Additionally. Alexander Nix, the CEO of Cambridge Analytica, was seen on footage to be blackmailing public officials around the world. This is against UK law.
